Pre-Work Assessment
Your piece is examined before any disassembly. A written summary of findings and planned steps is shared with you. Nothing begins until you have agreed on the scope.
Written Service Record
Every service produces a written document detailing what was found, what was done, and what timing readings were recorded before and after. Yours to keep.
Preservation-First Ethos
Original patina, case surfaces, and dial character are preserved by default. Any refinishing is discussed beforehand — never assumed to be desired.
Calibrated Timing Tests
Movements are tested on timing equipment in multiple positions. Readings are logged and included in the service record — not just noted internally.
Consistent Communication
You are kept informed throughout the service period. If something unexpected comes up, you hear about it before any additional work is undertaken.
Grade-Appropriate Lubricants
Swiss-specification lubricants matched to movement type and component position — not general-purpose oils applied across the board.

The right tools for the work
A watchmaker is only as thorough as the equipment available. Cogwright maintains a workshop fitted with calibrated timing equipment, proper cleaning apparatus, and magnification tools appropriate to the level of work carried out — not consumer-grade substitutes.
Service
You are kept in the picture
Cogwright assigns a dedicated service coordinator to each intake. From the first enquiry through to collection, one person tracks your piece and responds to questions. There is no telephone queue, no waiting for an anonymous service desk to relay a message to a technician.
If the assessment reveals something the original enquiry did not anticipate, you are contacted before the work proceeds. The decision remains with you.

Documentation as standard, not optional
Most workshops note findings internally. Cogwright produces a formal written record for the owner — including timing data, parts sourced, and a plain-language account of every procedure carried out. This document belongs to you, not us.
No work begins without your agreement
The assessment reveals what is needed. We share that with you. You decide what to proceed with. This is a deliberate structure — not a formality — to ensure you remain in control of decisions about your piece.
Deliberate restraint in refinishing
We do not default to polishing. A brushed case that shows honest wear is often more appropriate to the watch's age than a mirror finish. We discuss the options and let you decide what outcome suits the piece.
Caliber-specific research before opening
Before a movement is opened, its known characteristics — pivot tolerances, common wear points, lubrication specifications — are confirmed. This is particularly relevant for vintage calibers where standard procedures may not apply.
